Windows 8 Still Not Sitting Pretty

It's been around for 2½ years now, but there are still so many people out there who just can't get used to Windows 8.

There's no denying, it was a huge leap in terms of how it looked from the previous versions of Windows, and some people embraced the change. Some, however, felt it was too much too soon and wanted a way out of the brightly coloured boxes.

Enter Stem! Our clever engineers can apply an interface which looks just like your trusty old Windows 7 or XP. So you can still have your brand new Windows 8 computer, just with the familiarity of your previous machine. Like the sound of it? Give us a call on 01765 696969 and ask an engineer for more information.

And Here It Is, Carl's Green 'Tache!

A big well done to Carl, not only for raising 130 (so far) for The Middle of the Road, but also for being brave enough to go out in public looking like this!

It's Movember!

As if growing a moustache for Movember wasn't enough, Carl has decided to dye his 'tache green for charity!

Every penny he raises will go to 'The Middle of the Road', a local charity who help young and middle-aged disabled adults through a social day care support facility and who have helps Carl's wife Maureen greatly since her stroke in 2010. The Middle of the Road hold weekly sessions where its members have access to physio, have lunch, take part in social activities such as quizzes and holding raffles and they also arrange day trips out to places of interest. Middle of the Road rely solely on donations, and the staff provide their time for free.

If you'd like to help this fantastic charity (or if you'd just like to see Carl look ridiculous!) please call in to Stem and donate whatever you can.

Avoid Tech Support Phone Scams

People often think that the only way they can have their systems hacked is via emails or fake websites. Unfortunately it is becoming more and more common for cybercriminals to call you on the phone. These hackers will often pretend to be from Microsoft, claiming your computer has viruses or try to sell you a software license. If they gain access your computer they can do any of the following;

  • Trick you into installing malicious software that can access valuable data such as online banking details, and often charge you a heafty fee to remove the software.
  • Convince you to visit legitimate websites for them to remotely access your computer and change your settings leaving your computer vulnerable.
  • Ask you for your credit card details and then bill you for fake services.
  • Convince you to visit fraudulent websites and ask you to enter your card details there, again for fake services.

What to do

If you receive one of these unsolicited phone calls, DO NOT TRUST THEM. Even if they sound legitimate, remember that Microsoft or any other similar companies will never call and ask for such details. DO NOT PROVIDE ANY PERSONAL INFORMATION.
